Medan

Yes its been more than a month.

Yes i haven't updated.

Yes its been a while since anyone came here.

But since u are here, please do continue reading
.................................

Its kind of ironic how my first blog update on Medan, is on the day before I leave back from Malaysia.

Okay, for those of you who haven't had a chance to hit "refresh" on the web page of my life, here's what's been happening so far.

I've been in medan since the 23rd of october. My birtday was on the 24th. Yes yes, who hoo and whoop dee do, I had an Indonesian birthday. No cake. No song. Just an outing to town here with my aunt. Now enrolled in USU (universitas sumatera utara) for the medicine program, I am now gonna be stuck here for the next 5 years or so.

I'm currently staying in a place called Jaya Bangunan which is a shoplot building with 4floors of dorms. The ground floor is a home contractors store. They sell mostly tiles, cement and doorknobs.

My place is about a ten minute walk from the medical faculty which is pretty near.

I'm now running out of proper grammar so I'm just gonna simplify

BEING HERE IN MEDAN

Pros:
-Cheap pulic transport
-Cheap petrol
-Cheap photostat shops
-NOT dangerous for bikers
-Some friendly Indonesians
-No mosquitoes (very very very few at night)
-Clothes are CHEAP
-Batik is cheap
-Shoes are not so pricy
-Cyber cafe's are everywhere. Just like mushrooms in a forest full of rotting timbers.
-Cyber cafe rates here are half the price of the ones in malaysia (What I really mean is Penang)
-The streets here are clean-ish
- Internet speed here is bearable sometimes.

Cons:
-Bullshit weak electricity supply (sometimes)
-Frequent blackouts
-Some racist indonesians
-Dusty in the afternoon
-Chickens running around the roads which are the size of small cats
-Cili padi is in everything if you don't tell them not to add it
-People who are in offices are BLOODY slow at their work (except for the ones in banks. They're pretty quick-ish)
-We have a bloody curfew of 11p.m. which means they lock the doors from the inside after 11.
-Internet speed here most of the time just RUBBISH.

oh well, i guess we can't always have what we want.
